6:00 p.m. UT School of Music (LINK): The 24-Hour Composition Challenge Concert
This concert is the finale to the SCOUT-sponsored, 24-hour composition challenge! In this challenge, composers worked to write for a randomly selected set of players for the ensemble sizes they chose. After 24 hours, the composers gave their completed work to the performers to rehearse and play on this concert. Come join us as we watch the hard work put into such a short time! In celebration of 250 years since Beethoven's birth in 1770, pianist David Brunell will present a concert exploring three of Beethoven's greatest piano sonatas, including one from each of his three musical periods: the Pathétique, Op. 13, the Waldstein, Op. 53, and his penultimate sonata, the great Op. 110. Assisted by a PowerPoint presentation, Brunell will not only perform, but will also examine how each sonata communicates so powerfully and richly exemplifies Beethoven's continually evolving and compelling style.

7:30 p.m. Knoxville Jazz Orchestra (KJO): Sherman Irby with the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra - Live at Lucille's
Sherman Irby is the lead alto saxophonist and a principal composer/arranger for the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra under the direction of Wynton Marsalis. He has served in this role since 2005 and has contributed dozens of works to the Orchestra's vast library. Irby joins the entire Knoxville Jazz Orchestra for a debut Live at Lucille’s performance that is guaranteed to be soulful, energetic and incredibly entertaining!

2:30 p.m. Young Pianist Series: Tianxu An
Pianist Tianxu An, from Beijing, China, is a sought-after young pianist in China, Russia and the United States. Highlights of his 2019–20 season include performances with the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev in St.Petersburg, and with the China Philharmonic Orchestra under Xia Xiaotang as part of the International Mariinsky Far East Festival, solo recitals at the Mariinsky Theatre and Shanghai Grand Theater, and a concert with the China NCPA Orchestra under Jia Lü at the National Centre for the Performing Arts, among many others.
