The college’s audition-only choir, Variations, will perform a send-off concert before departing for their Spring Break Choir Tour. This year they’ll be travelling to Italy, and this performance will highlight some of the music they’ll be performing while on tour.

Based in Ohio, Altered Sound Duo is committed to promoting contemporary repertoire for saxophone and percussion. The group has performed at events such as the International Saxophone Symposium and was recently ensemble-in-residience at New Music On the Point in Vermont. This spring they will appear as ensemble-in-residence at the inaugural Music in Bloom Festival in Bloomington, Indiana.

6:00 pm UT School of Music (LINK) - UK Faculty Jazztet
The University of Kentucky Faculty Jazztet includes Professor Miles Osland (woodwinds), Bradley Kerns (trombone), Raleigh Dailey (piano), Danny Cecil (bass), and Paul Deatherage (drums). The jazztet's music is an update of the jazz tradition with influences ranging from jazz fusion to free improvisation. The group plays original music, as well as reinventions of classic jazz material.

The UT Trombone Studio, Knoxville Youth Trombone Choir, and Tennessee Trombonery present a showcase of the trombone talent that surrounds the greater Knoxville area and the University of Tennessee. Selections are programmed from a wide variety of genres and composers, including both arranged and originally composed literature for the trombone ensemble.

The AA5 winter series concludes with the premier performance of the 4th annual week-end long Women in Jazz Jam Festival, coordinated by Kelle Jolly. The Women in Jazz Jam Festival Band is a collective lead by women musicians who perform with the love of jazz in their hearts and the joy of life on their faces. Featured in the group are some of Knoxville’s local favorites, as well as, rising stars. Their performance will include music written by and made famous by women performers, as well as some original music.

Winner of the Simcha Prize at the 2017 International Jewish Music Festival in Amsterdam, Big Galut(e) has been described as ‘soulful and unselfconsciously poignant,’ ‘jubilant,’ ‘a real treat for open minds,’ and ‘a serious band with lousy American humor.’ The musicianship of clarinetist Robin Seletsky, violinist Sasha Margolis, lutist Michael Leopold, keyboardist and percussionist Mark Rubinstein, and double bassist Richard Sosinsky combine for a fascinating repertoire that includes Klezmer originals and new twists on old tunes; classical pieces by Mahler, Musorgsky, Brahms, Shostakovich, Salomone Rossi, and Kurt Weill; tangos from Buenos Aires and Broadway; comical songs; and much more.
