Get those concert reports done sooner rather than later. This is a sampling of upcoming events in Knoxville, Maryville, and Oak Ridge. Other concertgoing tools: Facebook events, my Twitter lists, and the Do's and Don'ts of Concert Attendance.
Check back throughout the week because I constantly update the blog as I learn of events. All events without specific ticket information are FREE. Remember that some venues have an age restriction; I will post this info when I have it.

Hello, concertgoers! Here are some suggestions to make the most of your live music experiences this, both during this semester and beyond. DISCLAIMER: Always check your syllabus and with your instructor if you have questions.
Before:
Check your syllabus and/or with your instructor to be sure that the concert is an acceptable one.
Double check on the location and time before you leave home--sometimes performances get moved, rescheduled, or canceled.
Look up ticket info--is it free? Is there a cover? Are tickets more expensive at the door? Is there a purchase minimum? Is there an age restriction?
Dress comfortably. Contrary to popular belief, you don't have to dress up to see the symphony.
Arrive early to park.
Arrive early to get a good seat (especially if you might need to leave early).
Arrive early to get a printed program before they run out.
In case you haven't caught on yet--arrive early!!!
During:
Be a respectful and attentive audience member. Put away the cell phone/tablet/distractions and refrain from chatting with your neighbors.*
Be a good patron--buy a meal or at least a drink if the venue serves food, if your budget allows.
Chat with the performers during a break or afterward, if possible.
If your instructor requires it, be sure to have proof that you attended--ticket stub, concert program, etc. Get creative if you have to (e.g. selfie with the performer)!
After:
Be honest in your reports--say what you liked and didn't like, not what you think your teacher wants to hear.
Make mental notes of what you feel you should do differently before, during, and after the next event.
Have fun!
*This is more for traditional settings, like concerts in recital halls. An exception to the chatting rule would be at restaurants and jazz clubs, though it's still nice to be quiet and listen.
