Robyn James is a classically-trained musician and award-winning educator from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Her main instruments are viola, violin, and piano and she sings when given the opportunity. She is the founder of Robyn James Ensembles, a string group providing music for corporate meetings, parties, weddings, and other events. The group has been awarded WeddingWire’s Couples’ Choice Award for the past five years. Robyn also performs with the Oak Ridge Symphony and has previously performed with the Knoxville Symphony and the Symphony of the Mountains.
Robyn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro and a Master of Music in Viola Performance from the University of Tennessee - Knoxville. She recently began her tenth year as an adjunct professor at Pellissippi State Community College, where she has taught applied viola, applied violin, music appreciation, and music fundamentals. Robyn also taught music appreciation and string techniques at Lincoln Memorial University for several semesters. She maintains a private studio in which she instructs students age six and up in music theory, viola, and violin.
Robyn was selected by peer faculty and staff as Outstanding Adjunct Faculty for the 2015-2016 academic year at Pellissippi State. When she isn’t teaching or performing, she can usually be found lending her talents to the worship team at her church home, Grace Presbyterian Church. Her non-music hobbies include writing fiction, reading, and napping.
